Processó de la Beata

The Procession of the Beata is the most emblematic event of the Beata Festival in Santa Margalida and is always held on the first Sunday of September.

During these days, the streets of the Vila are filled with the scent of myrtle and the sound of the dimonis’ bells echoes everywhere, creating a unique atmosphere that announces one of the most eagerly awaited moments of the year.

The procession fills the town with music, colour, devotion and participation, with floats, pagesos and pageses, children, marching bands and dimonis. The celebration pays tribute to Santa Catalina Tomàs, popularly known as the Beata, a much-loved figure in Mallorcan religious devotion and popular culture.

One of the most characteristic moments comes when the dimonis try to take the jugs carried by participants dressed as pagesos and smash them at the feet of the Beata. This scene, full of visual impact and symbolism, is one of the most representative images of the celebration.

The Processó de la Beata is much more than a religious event: it is a living expression of the identity of the Vila, a celebration that brings together tradition, emotion, memory and village life.
