Sepulcre dolmènic de Son Bauló

The Son Bauló dolmen tomb is a prehistoric funerary structure and one of the most notable archaeological sites in the municipality of Santa Margalida.

This is the best-preserved dolmen burial site of the three known examples in Mallorca. It was abandoned around 1750 BCE, placing it within a very early period of the island’s prehistory, before the full development of the Talayotic culture.

The site preserves a structure consisting of a square burial chamber, an access corridor and a circle of stone slabs that marked the base of the mound of earth and stones that originally covered the monument.

This type of construction helps us understand the funerary practices of Mallorca’s prehistoric communities and the symbolic importance of these spaces associated with death, memory and the land.

The remains of the Sepulcre dolmènic de Son Bauló can be visited and offer the opportunity to discover, very close to Can Picafort, one of the oldest and most remarkable examples of the island’s archaeological heritage.
