Casa de la rectoria

The rectory stands on the same site as the 14th-century one, although the oldest elements of the façade appear to date from the 16th century, given that they already appear on the map of Santa Margalida from that period.

This is a large manor house with numerous rooms and structures added during different periods, resulting in a rather irregular layout organised around a small courtyard. Particularly noteworthy is the sala delmera, a long room with a barrel vault, as well as the unusual series of pyramids, some crowned with spheres and crosses, decorating the roof. These features already attracted the attention of Archduke Ludwig Salvator.

Immediately to the left upon entering stands a remarkable wayside cross dating from the late 15th century, which was originally located approximately where the olive tree now stands in Plaça de la Vila.

Taking advantage of the recessed corner of the rectory, a monument dedicated to Santa Catalina Tomás was installed in 1974, depicting her dressed as a traditional peasant woman. A small pond and landscaped area provide the setting for this bronze sculpture.

Plaça de la Vila is also home to several former manor houses belonging to the town’s wealthy families, built between the late 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century. They stand out for their large dimensions and the overall symmetry of their architectural composition.
