The surroundings of Can Picafort and the entire municipality of Santa Margalida make up the area of Mallorca with the highest density of archaeological remains, covering every period of the island’s prehistory. Many of these remains are of considerable importance, both because of their state of preservation and their uniqueness; some are even exceptional within the western Mediterranean.
The Finca Pública de Son Real is a natural and historical treasure. It is located on the north-east coast of Mallorca, on the road between Can Picafort and Artà. Across its 395 hectares, you will find an old possessió, archaeological sites, a variety of dune, pine and juniper ecosystems, old sand quarries, torres d’enfilació, 4 walking routes and 3 cycling routes, an exclusive horse-riding route, an information office and free bicycle and binocular hire.
The two buildings that make up the architectural complex of Son Real, ‘Es Sestadors’ and ‘la Casa dels Senyors’, have been renovated and converted into an Interpretation Centre and museum. In addition, the estate has 5 signposted routes that allow visitors to discover the different natural and agricultural environments of Son Real, while also providing access to the estate’s main points of interest: talaiot des Figueral, Necròpolis de la Punta des Fenicis, dolmen, refuge, beach, etc.
