Santa Margalida

Santa Margalida

Historic center of Santa Margalida

This route, just over a kilometer long, will cover the main heritage features found in the historic center of the town of Santa Margalida, which dates back to the 13th–15th centuries.

The name of the Vila, “Santa Margalida”, originates from the dedication to the saint of the same name, to whom the church built on the land of the former Islamic alqueria of Hiachat or Yachat was dedicated. However, the popular and most common name for the town of Santa Margalida is “la Vila”, a term commonly used both by its residents and by those of neighbouring towns.

The route begins on the esplanade of the Església Parroquial de Santa Margalida, which forms one of the most attractive spaces in la Vila, with a viewpoint overlooking the extensive agricultural plains surrounding the town, known as “ses Sorts”. From here, the route passes by the main manor houses, such as Casa den Verga Vell and Casa de la Rectoria, before reaching the Plaça de la Vila.
