During the Pre-Talayotic period (approximately 2000–1300 BC), the most common form of burial was inhumation in caves. These could be natural caves, modified natural caves or chambers excavated into the rock. Along the coast of Son Real, three well-preserved examples of this culture can be seen.
Their location on the boundary between the Mediterranean scrubland and the coast, in a natural passage area, led some of them to be used as shelters by both animals and people. Furthermore, their location just a few metres from the Necròpolis de Son Real, Illa dels Porros and the Talayotic wall enclosing the esplanade in front of the cave supports the hypothesis that this group of caves may once have formed part of the same sacred complex in this area of Son Real.
