The Illa des Porros Necropolis is one of the most distinctive funerary sites in the vicinity of Son Real. Situated on a small offshore islet, it forms part of the vast archaeological funerary landscape that extends along this stretch of the coast.
The site features three large collective burial structures, remains of tombs similar to those at the Son Real Necropolis, and other inhumation burials located outside the chambers in oval pits.
The material culture documented in these tombs resembles that of Son Real, demonstrating a link between the two funerary complexes and reinforcing the idea that this entire coastal area held great ritual and funerary significance during Mallorca’s recent prehistory.
Although primarily associated with Talayotic and post-Talayotic communities, the islet was likely also used as a burial site during the Roman and medieval periods.
Access to Illa des Porros is currently prohibited due to its state of conservation and the fragility of the site. This restriction is essential to protect the archaeological remains and ensure their preservation.
The Illa des Porros Necropolis helps us understand the symbolic continuity of this coastline, where the sea, islets, tombs, and natural landscape combine to form one of the most unique archaeological complexes in the western Mediterranean.
