Llaüt at the entrance to Son Serra de Marina

The llaüt is a traditional boat from the Balearic Islands used for trawling. The introduction of motorised boats and the increasing number of beachgoers led to its decline in professional use. As a result, today it represents a traditional craft mainly preserved by enthusiasts, and its presence in the Mallorcan fleet is now almost purely symbolic.

Although modern motorised versions can now be found, the traditional llaüt is a small lateen-sail boat, approximately four metres long, with three masts and capable of reaching speeds of up to seven knots. Its strength and stability on the water make it an ideal vessel for all kinds of activities, such as recreational sailing or sport fishing, while also making it resistant to adverse weather conditions.
